Lifted from David Lynch’s Dune film adaptation is their style. However, they often feel disconnected and somewhat random, as if lifted from a film or TV series. The cutscenes explain the relationship between the Atreides and the Fremen, comment on the machinations of the Emperor, introduce new military hardware, and serve as briefings. New are the live-action cutscenes between missions, another staple of the Command & Conquer games. Once more, the player has the choice to join one of the three noble houses and lead it to victory. Elara, a member of the ancient Bene Gesserit thinking school, foresaw the death of the commander many times, but also saw a possible future in which they brought peace to Arrakis and the Imperium. The player takes the role of a military commander smuggled to Arrakis by Lady Elara, concubine to Emperor Frederick IV Corrino. Interestingly, both the execution of Ordos mentat advisor Amon and the retirement of his Atreides colleague Radnor are referenced, indicating that Dune 2000 is also a sequel of sorts to Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty. Once more, Houses Atreides, Harkonnen, and Ordos fight over the desert planet Arrakis, sole source of Spice in the universe. The plot, on the other hand, was kept largely intact. Dune 2000 itself was criticized for its production value and presentation, even though it had abandoned many aspects of its predecessor and adapted gameplay closer to that of Command & Conquer instead. Early entries in the genre looked ancient compared to more recent titles, and classic series such as WarCraft, StarCraft, Age of Empires, and Total Annihilation had been established. During this time, the real-time strategy genre had evolved at a rapid pace. Their strategy was using gholas and other forms of treachery to thwart any attempts at alliance among their enemies and secure alliances for them. When Dune 2000 was released, less than six years had passed since the Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty saw the light of day. For that end they were trying to manipulate many of the factions of the Second Spice War (Fremen, Sardaukar, Smugglers) into conflict with any of the major house. After the First Spice War they gained the technology to make ghola slave soldiers from the corpses of fallen enemies and hired a new Strategist.ĭuring the war they intended to create a ghola of the deceased Emperor Frederick IV, who would serve as a puppet emperor subservient to them. The House faced stiff competition for the spice in Arrakis. Was little military strength to House Ordos, relying mostly to mercenaries (who tended to desert with great frequency). They gained immense wealth that bought them incredibly powerful forbidden technologies and weapons mainly from the house of Ix. House Ordos were driven in all they endeavor to do by a calculated and single-minded mandate to destroy anything that stands between them and the most valuable substance in the known universe. House Ordos represented one of the most greedy and selfish Great Houses in the Imperium their only goal was to generate revenue to sustain the pluto/technocratic elite of the House, who, to this end, have fine tuned the House to an inhumanly specific degree. One by one, those noblemen generals have been eliminated under mysterious circumstances and were replaced by the Executrix whose origins are not known. No one has ever seen them except the few generals who formerly controlled what troops the Ordos could muster. Ordos seemed to have formed by a reclusive cartel of wealthy noblemen who seem to control the finances of House Ordos, and thus, House Ordos itself. They were insidious and had a tendency towards sabotage, expensive weaponry, and illegal technologies imported from Ix. The economy of their planet is based entirely on trade and smuggling. The Ordos perhaps have their ancient Earth origins in China, since their family name is the same as that of the Ordos Desert.
